....ABOUT AVERT YOUTH FOUNDATION
Avert Youth Foundation. A Non-Governmental Organization operates fantastic structures and has yesterday the 25th of February issued a resolution to all its heads of clubs and committees to begin their work. Essentially, it is this heads of clubs and committees that actually runs the prorammes and activities of the organization. Members of this various clubs and committees however pledge their support to work assiduously to achieve their goals.
The president of Avert Youth Foundation, Mr Adam Siddique Zagoon however thank the leaders of the various groups and asked them to see themselves as agents of change in the community and must work hard to ensure development and growth in Maamobi, Nima, New-town, Kanda and its environs. Although our biggest challenges has been funding and an office to operate, he advice the leaders of the groups not to relent in their effort in seeing to it that development come to the community in order to improve the lives and living standard of the people.
Indeed, having mentioned among other things, the committees and clubs that we have, which include, the Dream Team committee, Sports club, Ladies Clique, AIDS Club, Civic Club, Welfare Committee, Edutainment cub, Judicial Committee, Finance Committee, Publicity Committee, Audit Committee, privileges Committee, Vetting Committee, Electoral Commission and Awards Committee, the president added that he doesn’t see why we shouldn’t perform. It is not surprise that we were adjudges The Best Youth organization in 2003, simply because of our solid structure and our best practices. He charged the leaders to come out with innovative programmes that will inure to the benefit of members and the community and added that the community lacks so many social amenities. We are calling on agencies such as the Ghana Aids commission, NCCE, Global Health Council, World Bank, Action Group of Africa, African Women Development Funds and other bodies to come to the aid of the community. May be some collaboration will do.
Nonetheless, the president assured members of the full operation of the free classes in March 3rd to prepare our sisters in the JHS in their BECE exams to come off in April. Essentially, we are starting the classes on pilot bases and therefore two schools has bee selected to benefit from the programme. The schools are Patience Preparatory and JHS and Bethany Preparatory and JHS all deprive schools in our community. Having seen the poverty of Education in the community, we the Youth have taken it upon ourselves to do something in order to bridge the gap. However, we will like to invite donor support to assist us with teaching and learning materials and other logistics. Our members promise to provide their service free of charge.Our foundation over the years has been organizing its flagships programmes such as the Women Forum or Women Capacity Building, Youth Empowerment Summit, Millennium Dream Team, Power Walk, Clean-up Exercise Aids Concert or Commemoration of the World Aids Day, Excursion, Nkrumahs Forum or Funders Day.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
AVERT Youth Foundation’s main mission is to create the necessary opportunities and platforms for young people to express themselves and help them solve pressing issues affecting them. In this vein, the Foundation has adopted the following as its aims and objectives:
1. To inspire, connect and empower members to help young people in our community by volunteering, fundraising and speaking engagements.
2. To promote tolerance, maintain discipline and transform the youth through education.
3. To educate the youth to understand their civic rights and responsibilities.
4. To help combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other related diseases affecting the youth.
5. To ensure environmental sustainability in our community.
6. To promote gender equality and empower the women in our community.
7. To undertake other development programmes that will better the lot of young people in our community.
8. To promote and ensure tribal and religious balance in our community.
